Who
Can I Hire to Qualify for Tax Credits?
Employees
who are in one of the following nine eligible groups can qualify
an employer for the WOTC:
- Welfare Recipients members of a family that
received Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) for
a total of at least nine of the 18 months before the date
of hire.
- 18-39 year-old Food Stamp Recipients members
of a family that received food stamps for at least six consecutive
months before the date of hire or for at least three of the
five months before date of hire and their food stamp eligibility
expired.
- Veterans who are members of a family that
received food stamps for at least three consecutive months
during the 15 months before the date of hire.
- Disabled Veterans who are receiving disability
programs for a service-related disability.
- Vocational Rehabilitation Referrals disabled
persons who completed or are completing rehabilitative services
approved by a state or the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
- Designated Community Residents ages 18-39 years-old
who reside in federally designated urban or rural Empowerment
Zone or Enterprise Communities.
- Summer Youth ages 16-17 years-old hired as
Summer Youth Employee and who reside in an Empowerment Zones
or Enterprise Communities.
- Ex-felons who are hired within one year of
their release date, or who are in a "Work Release"
program.
- SSI recipients individuals who received Supplemental
Security Income benefits for any month during the 60 days
before the date of hire.
- Long-term welfare recipients who began work
on or after July 1, 1999.
